It could have been one of the highlights of an otherwise largely disappointing transfer window… but in the end it was just too good to be true: Dwight McNeil is not move to Crystal Palace for £20 million.
McNeil would make the move from Merseyside to South London on loan for the remainder of the season, with an obligation to buy for £20 million in the summer and become Palace’s second signing of transfer Deadline Day.
However, it is understood that the paperwork was not submitted in time for the deal to be completed, and therefore McNeil will remain at Everton for the rest of the season.

Kevin; I thought it was too good to be true: £20 million, no one is that crazy

There are now reports saying the McNeil deal fell through?
Posted on 02/02/2026 at 21:40:13
The McNeil deal is off, dammit!
Posted on 02/02/2026 at 21:40:38
For goodness sake, yes, Bobble confirmed the deal was off. For once, things looked good for Everton.

I hear the Mcneil deal fell through, apparently with paperwork issues.

Absolutely shocking news about McNeil. If anyone wanted a layoff, that would have been the best deal of the season.
Posted on 02/02/2026 at 21:49:02
I wonder why it didn’t go through? Did Palace offer £20,000 and for some strange reason we thought they said £20 million?

McNeil deal off.
Posted on 02/02/2026 at 21:52:31
This is why I never understand why clubs leave deals so late.
Posted on 02/02/2026 at 21:52:52
According to BBC, the paperwork was not completed on time. That’s so old-fashioned Everton. I thought TFG was a well run organization…

Part of the medical treatment was that he kicked the ball with his right foot?Just kidding, he might still have some big goals for us in him. To be honest, I don’t think he is at full competitive speed yet this season.
Welcome back, Dwight.
Posted on 02/02/2026 at 21:53:30
Palace get the best out of Dwight by playing him on the left.
Posted on 02/02/2026 at 21:56:13
Typical McNeil…no finished product!!! Looks like we’re stuck with the silly sod for a while yet.
Posted on 02/02/2026 at 21:56:29
Is there anything more to Everton than ruining a deal by missing a paperwork deadline 😕
Posted on 02/02/2026 at 21:59:47
Palace made the most of this deal by not letting it go through.
Posted on 02/02/2026 at 22:04:31
Frankly, we thought we might have moved forward with this paperwork that wasn’t submitted on time. Doesn’t reflect well on our new American overlords at all. Amateur hour continues. And I say this with no malice towards Dwight, just the incompetent bean counters.
Posted on 02/02/2026 at 22:05:41
We just pay him now because he sits on his ass every game.
Posted on 02/02/2026 at 22:06:42
According to the BBC, the deal fell through because the paperwork was not submitted on time. That’s old-fashioned Everton. I thought TFG would be the professional organization we all long for.
Based on this, nothing has changed.

Both clubs involved in the deal must complete the deal form. Perhaps it was Palace who were late in completing their part of the paperwork?
Posted on 02/02/2026 at 22:12:38
We bet he starts against Fulham!
Posted on 02/02/2026 at 22:12:40
His head will hang even more until the end of the season.
Posted on 02/02/2026 at 22:15:21
Maybe it’s Palace who didn’t get the paperwork done on time?

🚨The deal sheet for Dwight McNeil’s move to Crystal Palace was submitted on time and McNeil completed his medical. But as Palace’s sale of Mateta fell through, they changed the terms from a £20 million purchase to a loan with an obligation and then pulled out.

Palace did not submit the paperwork on time. Maybe they saw sense in it!
Posted on 02/02/2026 at 22:25:02
Like a new signing. And like several other new players, he shouldn’t expect much playing time.
Posted on 02/02/2026 at 22:25:45
Well, maybe it works out for everyone. We have two wing positions that without Dwight would be filled by three teenagers and a tired-looking Ndiaye. I suspect Dwight will come in handy in quite a few games this season when we need to get games to a close.

£20 million? I won’t believe McNeil is gone until I see him in a Palace shirt, with the scarf over his head.
