UFC legend Dustin Poirier has explained what he would do with the current landscape of the lightweight division.
For the longest time now, Dustin Poirier has been a big favorite with fans in the world of mixed martial arts. Although he has now retired, he is still able to give the masses a number of great insights into what he thinks and how he believes that things should be at elite level.

At the moment there is a jam at the top of the lightweight division. Ilia Topuria is the reigning champion, but it is not clear about who he will first defend – and when he will fight exactly. Poirier is of course still familiar with a handful of names in the top 15, such as Justin Gaethje and Max Holloway.
In a recent podcast performance, Poirier spoke frankly about what he thinks should be the next one for the biggest stars with 155 pounds.
Poirier’s plan for lightweight division
“Gaethje (should get the title shot),” Poirier told MMA Junkie. “He is such a precise striker and he is so good. Gaethje puts himself in danger. It would be a terrible matchup for Gaethje if he lung in it and is sitting by one of those clean photos. But it can also be a difficult fight for topuria.”
“He is one thing that I am sure: respect for Paddy and what he did – I don’t think a victory is Michael Chandler, on the Skid Chandler and the way his fighting went, deserves a title shot,” said Poirier. “I know he is exciting and people talk about him, but I would like to see him fighting a top five. Another difficult, difficult test. And then we can talk to title fights for him. I think it is a bit rushed for Paddy, when we talk about him and Ilia.”
“Put Max in with Pimblett,” said Poirier. “That is a nice fight to find out at what level Paddy is real. But there are a lot of fun fights for Max, man. A lot of fun fights. I would also like to see Max vs. (Dan) hooker. I am a fan of both boys and I know that would be a nice fight for everyone.”
