The Cash Run is one of two black events on Gulfstream’s New Year’s Day schedule, including the Dania Beach Stakes. Both wallets contained $25,000 in stimulus funds from Florida.
Gainesway Stable and Andrew Rosen’s Dunmore Beach ultimately crossed the wire in second on their debut on September 20 at Woodbine, but were disqualified to sixth for interference. A month later she came back to play a match in third place. All three of her starts were at Woodbine.
“I thought she was pretty impressive in that race,” trainer Josie Carroll said of her first win. “We had been looking forward to running her two turns, and she certainly lived up to our expectations. We thought she was a promising filly. She had a bit of bad luck in her first few starts, got into trouble and got DQ’d. When we ran her two turns, she was quite dominant.
“I think her shorter races were respectable too, so we’re not too worried about that. She seems to be handling the dirt well in her training. It will be her first time running on it, but the stakes seemed like they were low stakes, so we thought it was worth going in there.”
Trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. entered two fillies for Thursday’s race, including entries from Final Furlong Farm and Madaket Stables Secaan . The daughter of Audible finished third in the Tempted Stakes on November 6 at Aqueduct racecourse. She is the favorite in the morning line at 8-5.
Stephen Screnci’s multiple bets have been placed My life will break from Post 1. Both of her stakes placements came in Gulfstream, on the sand in the Hallandale Beach Stakes and on grass in the Our Dear Peggy Stakes. Five of the Involve The filly’s six starts have come at Gulfstream, including her maiden victory by four lengths on September 6. She finishes sixth in the November 29 Golden Rod Stakes (G2) at Churchill Downs.
