Duke and basketball coach Jon Scheyer have agreed to a new six-year-old deal that will keep him around Durham until the 2030-31 season, According to ESPN. Scheyer, who replaced the legendary coach Mike Krzyzewski, previously signed an extension in 2023 that ran until 2029.
Scheyer is less than a year away from leading the Blue Devils to the Final Four 2025, the first of the program in three years. He also has 89 victories because of his first three seasons that are in charge, which means that former Butler coach Brad Stevens and the current Illinois coach Brad Underwood most in division I history in that period the most in Division I history history.
Scheyer’s Blue Devils ended the 2024-25 season with a 35-4 record, which marked the first time that Scheyer won 30 games in a single season. It was also the best record of the program in a decade. That included a 19-1 record in conference game when Duke won both the ACC tournament and the ACC Regular Season Crown. Before he took over after the retirement from Krzyzewski, Scheyer was an assistant at Duke of 2014-18 and an associated head coach for the Blue Devils of 2018-22.
Scheyer also played under Krzyzewski at Duke of 2006-10. He was an all-accel selection from 2010 when he helped guide the Blue Devils to their fourth national title with Krzyzewski at the helm.
Scheyer recruitment at a high level
Although Scheyer improves as an in-game coach, his recruitment has always been on the point. In fact, during his three short years he has collected some of the most impressive recruitment classes in Duke’s proud history.
In 2022, only a few months after he was chosen by hand as the successor to Krzyzewski, Duke signed the number 1 recruitment class. The Blue Devils have signed the top class basketball -recruitment class in the one year of Scheyer’s term of office.
Thirteen of the 22 prospects signed with Duke since 2022 have ruled as five stars, per 247sports. Over the past three years, Scheyer has also signed four of the 12 highest rated players in program history. This includes Cooper Flagg, who was the best total prospect in the 2024 class and the number 1 general choice in the 2025 NBA concept. Flagg was one of the three blue devils taken in the first round of June. Kon Knueppel generally went fourth and Kaman Maluach went from the board at number 10 of the board.
