Southland trained Hertogin van Kent (Art Major) Has stamped itself as an early competition for the Nevele R Filles series with her impressive victory over Addington last night.
“Normally I don’t get too nervous. But last night I was a little different,” said trainer Lauren Pearson who looked at the race from her Winton house.
After she won in Ascot Park at the beginning of July, Pearson sent the three -year -old Merrievefeulen to the north to Bob Butt so that she could race in the early heats of the Nevele R Fillies series.
In last night’s race, Kent’s butt reckoned back early and with a round to run she was the second last on the outside. When he came out of the last corner, he asked his mare trees to improve three wide and she started chasing the leaders. Butt pulled the earbuds shortly afterwards and once she was in balance with the Run home Duchess van Kent, nicely abandoned and won with one and a half period of the Celestial Sea.

The winning time for the 1980 meters was 2-23.1 with the last 800 meters cut out in 56.2.
The victory was Duchess of Kent’s fourth in a row. All her victories were three years old in this season.
“We had a yarn with Bob last night and he will place her in a nice paddock above until she gets home. The next heat we target on the 28one October in Ashburton. Hopefully the victory has given her enough (points) to get into the final. “
Pearson says that Duchess or Kent will remain in Canterbury for the Nevele R Fillies Series Final and the New Zealand Oaks.
“We will probably give her a start here and then bring her to Ashburton.”
The three -year -old mares, this season seems to be particularly strong with Captains Minnares, Arafura, next to me and General Jen to appear for the business end of the season.
“Bob was rap. Although we have not yet raced with the real good racing, Bob thinks that the 2600 meters of the Oaks will not worry. She will improve with the age and Brent thinks she will be better next year. She will still get up, but the breed will get better with age.”
Pearson thinks Duchess or knows perhaps the best horse is that she and her partner Brent Barclay have trained.
“Potential yes, because our horses are normally sold. We are lucky that it is a keeper.”
Lauren and Brent have just returned from a holiday in Australia.
“We went to Port Douglas where it was very hot. It was good to get away, but good to come back.”
The victory was Pearson’s seventy ninth and first at Addington.
Hertogin van Kent is raced by the Lester Smith estate and his widow Julia and Zonen Matt and Sam were on the track to enjoy the victory.

This was only the second time that a horse bred by Smith won at Addington. Get the tape trained by Alan Scobie won there in November 1986.
Hertogin van Kent is from the Christian Cullen Mare Galleons -more of the who bought Smith for $ 25,000 in June 2010 during a distribution of the distribution of Kerry Hoggard in Auckland.
Duchess van Kent is the last foal from the honor of Galleons. The mare died of laminitis.
Over the years, Smith raced a number of good horses, including Atitagain, first glimpse and duke of Wellington.
Atitagain and Duke or Wellington both won the Southern Supremacy Stakes, while the first glimpse the El Dorado Gold Classic from 1991 won in Moonee Valley.
