Driving between storms

Driving between storms

Our winter rains showed up in earnest last Thursday. It rained all day, so I rode indoors on my trainer. This was surprisingly relaxing as I treated it like a meditation, riding with my eyes closed, which is fine on a trainer. Since then it has rained occasionally and I have been doing as many outdoor rides as possible with my rain gear, which works fine when it only rains a little. I try to avoid heavier rain because it can hurt to get pelted in the face when you’re riding at a decent clip.

I was hoping for nice weather last Tuesday when I was leading our group ride and pinch-hitting for our normal leader Kris while she was traveling. We were lucky and had a lovely day for the ride, which went up into the hills south-west of Morgan Hill and to the sports complex in Gilroy on some good cycle paths before returning. On the way back we got a bit sprinkled, but not too bad. Wednesday it was cloudy and not raining, so I was able to do a longer and harder ride. Yesterday we had some showers during my ride, which cleared up later, and now we have 6 days of sunshine forecast. All in all it was a fun week of riding and dodging raindrops. We got about four inches total in this line of storms, for about 5 1/2 this season total, a good early start.
