Dricus Du Plessis knows that if he hopes to become MMA’s undisputed goat, he must pass Khazmat Chimaev.
UFC 319 will see ‘DDP’ step back in the spotlight when he sets his middleweight world title against the undefeated Chechen sample in Chicago. It will be Du Plessis’s third defense after successful trips against both Israel Adesanya and Sean Strickland.
But this time the South African sensation is a test in contrast to everything he has to do earlier – with all due respect for ‘Tarzan’ and ‘The Last Styleberder’.
Chimaev has become something of a boogeyman in the Octagon Since making his memorable Octagon debut in 2020. Since then he has won eight consecutive under the UFC banner, with an intact 14-0 record.
With that in mind it should not be a surprise that ‘Borz’ is a favorite of 2 to 1 to leave ‘The Windy City’ with UFC gold wrapped around his waist.

But for Du Plessis, that simply means that it is another chance to get up the P4P rankings on the way to a day retiring as the greatest mixed war artist of all time.
“Let me tell you this, the goal always remains the same,” said Du Plessis The Schmo. “To be the best to do this sport ever. You know, see the statue, the biggest thing there was ever, the biggest will ever do it. That is my ambition, and I see myself about 10, 15 years left.”
Just like Chimaev, Du Plessis goes to UFC 319 with a perfect plate in the Octagon.
Despite opening like an underdog in seven of his nine career fighting with the promotion, ‘DDP’ is 9-0. Will he continue to defy the opportunities on Saturday, August 16? Only time will learn it.
