Trained by Robert and Jenna Dunn, the victory was her third in a row and her seventeenth in a career that included 101 starts. Her first twelve victories in harness racing were for Sam Smolenski.
“Three in a row is amazing. We didn’t see it coming. She hit a bit of a flat spot, but since she was on the beach, swimming and splitting her races every fortnight, it was really excellent,” said co-owner Kevin Sturgeon.
The eight-year-old is played by Sturgeon, Gail Lilley, Dianne Keith, David Currie, Alva McKinlay, David Neal, David Donaldson and Adam Donaldson.
“Sam was the one who told us to take her to the beach and that has given her a new lease of life. Since she’s been there she’s grown her leg again and now that she’s pregnant she’s doing even better. It’s been an incredible run lately. We’re having a beer or two and enjoying it, and Sammy’s here.”
In today’s driver, John Dunn I Dream Of Jeannie took care of the last handful of runners. When Practical Magic started to make her run, Dunn jumped onto the three-wide train with Hidden Talent on his back. As the field straightened for the run home, I Dream Of Jeannie hit the front and it was game over.

I dream of Jeannie (Pegasus Spur) the winning margin was two and a quarter lengths from Hidden Talent (Bacardi Lindy) with Mavis Jones (Majestic son) three lengths back in third place.
The winning time was 2-03.1 and a mile speed of 1-56.5.
I Dream Of Jeannie is her sire Pegasus Spur’s highest winning filly/mare and the second highest stakes earner behind millionaire trotter Speeding Spur. Her racing career is nearing an end now that she is safely pregnant with Tactical Approach.
