Phoenix Suns Rookie Kaman Maluach is still a very raw prospect, and his development will largely be based on his ability to overcome a general lack of natural skills. Sam Vecenie recently spoke about it on the Game theory Podcast:
“Kaman Maluach is a really good example this year,” said Vecenie. “Khaman Maluach does a number of things on the field that make you crazy. And you can just see from the way he recovers the basketball, there is no natural feeling there yet. But Khaman Maqluach is a child who is a great person, and everyone you say, very intelligent, understands that his shortcomings are short?
That said, Maluach was still a perfect swing for the suns to take.
Why is Kaman Maluach great for the Suns?
The suns are in a very heavy position. They just exchanged Kevin Durant and let Bradley Beal go, take it and make the road free for him to draw with the La Clippers. Now they are left with Devin Booker, their franchise -resource point, which they stretched, and a mix of other pieces.
But this year’s design gave them the chance to do something smart. And they went the chance.
Although they did not have a top five pick, they still managed to grab it in Maluach at Pick No. 10, a selection they received in the Durant trade, and they also added Rasheer Fleming and Koby Brea. Moreover, they acted to Mark Williams and brought even more youth to the team.
By taking fluctuations with young players, the Suns are getting up to build around Booker for the future, instead of trying to compete desperately (and probably fail) in a charged Western Conference.
Maluach is the real price of the couple. As noted by Vecenie, he is a raw prospect. There are many nodding that he has to work on, and if he ever wants to come to NBA level, he must develop some of the skills that are not obvious.
But he is a good person. He works hard. He is a great guy to have in the neighborhood. And those are solid building blocks.
Moreover, trade with the Suns for Williams Maluach will enable what help in the central position. He does not have to be thrown in the fire constantly. They also have Nick Richards and OSO ighodaro as a strong depth, who should both help Maluach’s development process.
Maluach is far from perfect, but he is great for what the suns are trying to do.
