Del Mar, Calif. – Alipony Racing, Agnew or Bunch, et al’s Dr. Venkman Used Saturday a hot early pace and closed nicely late to get a half -length winner in the $ 250,500 Pat O’Brien Stakes in del Mar.
The Zeven-Furlong, degree II tests, which ended in 1: 21.53, shutter 1, 2 and 3 saw in the field with six horses after Stablemates Speed Boat Beach and Maymun fast early splits and then dragged backwards.
Secondly, the stronghold of Eric and Sharon Waller and third, half a length back, was the Veteran Express train from CRK Stable.
Trained by Mark Glatt and driven by Umberto Rispoli Dr. Venkman paid $ 7.40 to his backers in the Saturday audience.
Earlier in the day three planned O’Brien -Starters – Great rhythm, Tapato and Man O Rose – all withdrew from the dashboard. That cut the field back to six runners and one of them, the spirit of Kristine Chandler, did not succeed in ending in the track.
“With the late scratches and the leaders drove a bit off the rail, it never got tight. Umberto (Rispoli) rode a very patient ride and when it opened, he could go through it. When he made the lead, he started pulling himself up, so maybe a little anxious late,” Glatt noted.
It was the first victory in the Pat O’Brien for both Jockey Rispoli and trainer Glatt.
The winning property group – Alipony Racing, Agnew of Bunch, et al is led by Mark Cohen van Los Angeles.
“It seems that Boat Beach will continue to float at the break speed, and you know, having a one-on-one can be difficult. But sometimes it can be a help, in this case he is a smart horse, he is a hunter. He knows how to run his races.” Said Rispoli.
“I just kept him on the fence, just looking forward to me, looking for a horse on the rail. Nobody wanted to be there, so at that moment I saw that, that would be my gap. That is the place where you get the momentum. Every time he runs, he runs with his heart, he can run a mile or a sprint.
Dr. Venkman, a 5-year-old gelding from Ghostzapper, earned a first prize of $ 150,000 to increase his win to $ 661,300 with his second set-out score and the fourth victory in his 10th lifetime. In addition, the Bay veteran earned a free ticket for the Breeders ‘Cup Dirt Mile via the “Win and you’re in” circumstances of the race imposed by the Breeders’ Cup People. The $ 1 million BC. Mile will be performed on Saturday, November 1 in Del Mar.
Racing will resume on Sunday on Del Mar with a first post from 2 p.m.
