Minister of the Interior Panche Toshkovski told a press conference “at least 50 people died in a discotheque in Kocani”, a city about 100 kilometers east of the capital Skopje.

Videos showed chaos in the nightclub, with people who ran through the smoke while the musicians encouraged people to escape as quickly as possible.
The police have dropped off the site and evidence for collecting teams in an operation that also concerns the public prosecutors.
A public prosecutor, Ljubco Kocevski, said that several people were questioned by the police, but gave no further details and emphasized that the cause of the fire was still being investigated.
Public Omroep MRT reported that 27 people were admitted to the hospital in the Sklopje City Hospital with serious burns and another 23 were treated in the clinical center.
Among the injured were minors, it said.

“The loss of so many young lives is irreparable and the pain of the families, loved ones and friends is immeasurable,” he said.
“The people and the government will do everything they can to at least all their pain and to help them at these most difficult moments.”
Family members have gathered for hospitals and the city firms of Kocani who beg authorities for more information.
