Double Class wins after perfect storm

Batavia, NY — Fast early quarters and readily available coverage gave Double Class the perfect storm to win the $10,000 Class AA trotting event at Batavia Downs on Friday evening (Oct. 17).

Double class

Mucho Macho (Kevin Cummings) took his usual front-end position and shot through fast fractions of :27.2 and :56.2 as the rest of the field tried to keep up. But that battle would soon end when Brookview Darius (Kyle Swift) and Double Class (Kyle Cummings) attacked from the outside and blew right past the faltering Mucho Macho on their way to three-quarters.

Brookview Darius crossed and took the lead when Double Class came alongside him heading into the turn. These two tangled for the next eighth of a mile to the top of the stretch, where Double Class exerted its dominance and pulled away to a victory by a length and a half in a season record, 1:56.1.

It was the sixth win of the year for Double Class ($9.06), owned by James Clouser Jr. and trained by Ron Beback Jr.

DOUBLE CLASS REPEAT

Double Class was just one of four wins for Kyle Cummings, who finished the night with a natural hat trick in his final three drives. Cummings also won with Tru Cash (1:59.1, $10.10), Always Choose Chip (1:58, $3.70) and My One Percent (1:59.2, $4.06), all of which were trained by Tammy Cummings, who recorded the natural hat trick.

Live racing resumes on Saturday (October 18) at Batavia Downs with post time at 6pm and there will be a carryover of $5,175 in the Jackpot Super Hi-5 pentafecta in the 13th race.
