For sale: 12 Springwood Close, Donvale.
A two-storey, four-bedroom house designed with landscaped gardens, gazebo, cubbyhole, in-ground pool and spa in Donvale was just a piece of land when seller Siemon Pleysier paid $45,500 for it almost 40 years ago.
Although Mr Pleysier said it was “one of the best decisions” he has ever made, he was not entirely convinced at the time.
“The reason for buying the property at the time was a threat from my mother,” he explained.
“She wasn’t happy with my spending habits and partying at the time.

“She said I had three months to find a place to live and commit to it, otherwise the costs I had to pay at home would increase significantly. I was 19 at the time.”
Taking a hands-on approach, Mr. Pleysier said that “I fixed everything inside and outside our house.”
“Every piece of furniture, kitchen, bathroom, wardrobe and hanging cupboard.
“Outside the same: every plant, every paving, retaining walls, garden shed. We designed and built this house to give our family the perfect life together.”
The main living space combines lounge, dining and kitchen areas with large windows overlooking the gardens.
The kitchen has stone worktops, stainless steel appliances including a 900mm hob.
The four-bedroom family home on the 956sqm site at 12 Springwood Close, Donvale, has been listed for the first time.
Both family living and entertaining are key design elements, with high ceilings creating a grand sense of scale, and an open-plan family space with a fully equipped chef’s kitchen at the heart of the home.
“We wanted multiple entertainment areas that would accommodate large family gatherings and be comfortable for everyone,” said Mr. Pleysier.
A fireplace creates a cozy spot in the formal lounge.
The main bedroom has a walk-in closet and en-suite bathroom.
“The house performed flawlessly. Cozy fireplace in winter, separate formal dining room.”
Downstairs, a rumpus and adjoining bedroom with sliding doors opening onto an outdoor zone and entertaining terrace creates a private retreat for guests or young adult children, or, as the seller’s family has chosen, a private games room.
“The games room downstairs on a large terrace with a barbecue allowed for many parties without disturbing anyone upstairs,” Mr Pleysier said.
The downstairs games room opens onto a large terrace with a BBQ, ideal for parties.
The four-bedroom residence is surrounded by lush gardens and parks.
Situated on a private, leafy cul-de-sac next to the Baradine Terrace Reserve with direct access to the Mullum Mullum Linear Creek Trail, Mr Pleysier said the location is another highlight of the property.
“We live in a beautiful park setting with only one traffic light between us and the Yarra Valley,” he said.
“There are three excellent schools within walking distance, minutes to the Eastern Freeway and a neighborhood full of great families.”
Barry Plant Doncaster East agent Michael Steenhuis has scheduled the auction for November 22 at 3pm with a price guide of $1.58 million to $1.65 million.
