Retired Invercargill Plumber Trevor Ryder has had a great run with the offspring of Star of the Ball and the record of the mare was extended today when Donny does so (Dear Lou) MAIDEN Rangen made.
After the early rush, trainer driver Kirstin Green established the three -year -old of the pace. When Stablemate Shergar improved, Green jumped on his back and was parked after 200 meters.
After the leaders were returned, Donny Do was challenging the challenging pacemaker Mighty Miki and these two fought a tight finish with Donny Do win through a neck.
Donny does play again
“He waited for horses to get from his back and he just loses the concentration. He only got there at a neck, but there was much more in the tank. I had to let him go that last bit to get his nose in front,” said Green.
Donny Do is raced by Trevor and Linda Ryder and is named after Linda’s deceased father Don Wright, who was a racing writer for the Southland Times for many years.
“He is a beautiful horse with a lot of ability, but he is a bit immature in the brain. He can sometimes panic and that is why you have to sit quietly and hold because he can jump out of his equipment. He gets better and is now going for a good enchantment. I think he will come back a nice horse.
Star of the Ball was bought by Ryder as a yearling with the help of Peter Lagan, Sandy Yardley and Gareth Dixon.
As a three-year-old she won four of her eighteen starts, including a heat from the Nevele R Fillies series in Ashburton, which called the 1609 meters in 1-56.1. However, the competition that season was difficult with people like Foreal, Molly Darling and mainland banner.
