Dominick Cruz explains why he liked to talk trash during his career

UFC legend Dominick Cruz has explained why he enjoyed talking trash during his mixed martial arts career.

When you talk about the greatest bantamweights of all time in mixed martial arts, Dominick Cruz has to be a prominent part of the conversation. While there are plenty who would make the argument for Merab Dvalishvili instead, Cruz had an incredible performance at 135 pounds, and if it weren’t for his string of injuries, he probably would have been included in the overall “greatest of all time” debate.

Sadly, that wasn’t the case, but one thing Dominick Cruz certainly knew how to do – injured or not – was talk trash. He was able to get into his opponent’s head better than most, giving him an advantage before he had even set foot in the cage.

In one recent episode of his podcast, Dominick Cruz explained why he enjoyed the trash talk element of the sport.

Dominick Cruz’s take on trash talk

“I enjoyed the nonsense in the interviews, I enjoyed talking to people’s faces when I got to see them, and at the end we get to fight. I can say whatever I want to say and I don’t care if I hurt your feelings, your poor little feelings.

“For once, I’m just allowed to be the person that I am, and sometimes that’s a motherf***er. I’m just going to kick your ass, I don’t care how you feel, and I don’t care if it makes your mother cry, and I don’t care if it makes your family cry, and I hope it does.

“There’s a part of us that has all that inside of us. A lot of us just don’t want to admit it. That’s deep inside of me. I stayed in that mode for 20 years. I come out the other side and say, oh, this is what life is like when you don’t have to be a maniac all the time and be ready to beat the next person.”

Fair play, Dom.
