More news: 3 Under-the-radar trade targets the Dodgers should consider for Black Friday
The 31-year-old Edman spent most of his time in center field after joining the Dodgers in 2024, but his ankle injury kept him primarily in the infield through 2025.
He initially sprained his ankle in April, which put him on the injured list for a few weeks. Edman returned in mid-May, but returned to the injured list in August after re-aggravating the injury. He returned in September, although he continued to struggle with an injury in the postseason.
Edman still contributed to the Dodgers’ 2025 World Series run — appearing in 16 games — but underwent surgery after the festivities.
“I’m doing well. I recently had surgery so I hope this fixes it for good,” Edman said on ESPN’s Sedano and Kap Morning Show. “It’s something I had to do after dealing with it the last two seasons. They said everything went smoothly. Hopefully it’s a good recovery and I get back to 100 percent.”

The Dodgers managed to make ends meet while Edman spent time on the injured list, drafting utility players at second and Andy Pages in center field, but the depth in their lineup suffered as the veteran recovered.
This was evident during the postseason, when Justin Dean – who had spent the vast majority of the season in Triple-A – was the Dodgers’ secondary center fielder throughout October.
With Miguel Rojas still available in free agency, Edman’s health is more important than ever to the Dodgers. Whether he plays in the outfield or plays second next season, the Dodgers hope he recovers well from surgery and can have a healthy season in LA as they look for a three-peat.
