More news: Cody Bellinger would like to return to Dodgers, agent says
Baseball’s biggest series aired on FOX with Joe Davis as play-by-play commentator and John Smoltz as color commentator. Some fans took issue with Davis behind the microphone, as he has been the main voice for the Dodgers on SportsNet LA all season.
The complaints ranged from a lack of excitement when calling plays about the Blue Jays to showing too much emotion for the Dodgers during the World Series. Davis spoke about the issue and how he dealt with it.
“These are exciting, very emotional times as fans. It’s what makes sports great that we all get a little irrational at certain points. Dodgers fans are going to get angry because I get excited for the other team. The other teams are going to be angry when I’m the Dodger guy,” Davis told Awful Announcing.
After the Dodgers’ victory in the World Series, Davis received more criticism for organizing the team’s championship rally. It is clear that the broadcaster will never be able to please everyone; however, his ability to call seven epic games in the Fall Classic should not be forgotten.
Now that baseball season is over, Davis has made the seamless transition to calling NFL games. Although baseball and football are two completely different sports, Davis’ demeanor behind the microphone remains the same.
