The Los Angeles Dodgers were approaching their catchers in a relevant development during the late season without both their catchers.
All-Star Backstop Will Smith was placed on the IL on 13 September (retroactive on 10 September) after he had taken an error ball from his hand on 3 September, and Rookie Catcher Dalton Rushing hit the injured list of a judge shin contusion last week, but was recalled on Tuesday.
With Smith that is eligible to be activated from the IL on Saturday, manager Dave Roberts spoke about his recovery.

“There can be a few swings with one hand. I don’t know if he will use his upper hand,” said Roberts. “When it comes to throwing, I’m not sure. It is a kind of daily things.”
With regard to possible activation, Roberts thinks it will depend on where Smith is in his rehabilitation process.
“I think that as the days get closer, it will depend on what he does,” said Roberts. “If two days of potential activation when he takes lives (live batting exercise), then it is more plausible, right? If he is not probably not (on Saturday).
“Hopefully every day gets better.”
Roberts also reported that Smith still catches Bullpen sessions and ‘tries to keep his body moving’. Without completely throwing or beating, there is no clear picture of when fans can expect the all-star behind the plate.
In Smith’s last 20 games this season, he hits .210 with a .726 Ops. Although his production has been down, there is no doubt that he is the best option for LA in October.
In the meantime, Ben Rortvedt has performed a phenomenal task. In his 11 performances in Dodger Blue, Rortvedt .286/.375/.357 with a .732 Ops. He also brings an immense value defensive and with his above -average framework power.
Since October looms up, all that Smith can do, continues to concentrate on his health and return to the line -up before the regular season starts.
