It starts to look better for the Los Angeles Dodgers if they start their series against the San Francisco Giants on Friday in the midst of a win with four games.

The Dodgers have a lead of three games on the San Diego Padres in the NL West, but the line-up is still missing one of the most consistent batters this season: catcher Will Smith
Smith was scratched from Wednesday’s line with discomfort in his right hand. It is certainly a reason for concern because the All-Star sustained a bone button in his right hand last week.
The injury caused Smith to miss five games and he was able to return to the Line -Up on Tuesday. Smith’s hand started to swell after his pre-game work and he was a late scratch.
Manager Dave Roberts gave the latest update about Smith and expressed optimism that the 30-year-old will play in Friday’s series opener in Oracle Park.
“It is clear that we will be free tomorrow. We will manage the treatment tomorrow and then we will make a decision on Friday or he will play,” said Roberts. “Not overly worried, but we have to get that swelling under wraps.
“We thought he could play tonight. But with the setback a bit, we have to make sure it doesn’t happen anymore. I don’t know for sure. I don’t want to say that he is not going to play on Friday, but we have to be pretty sure that he can catch two of the three if he is going to play on Friday.”
This season, Smith emerged as the most consistent batter of the Dodgers, on average .296 this season with 17 home runs, 61 runs hit and an OPS of .902. With 16 games in the season, LA must gather as many victories as possible to go in a high tone on October.
