Dodgers’ Clayton Kershaw reveals post-retirement plans

Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw hung up his sleeve after the 2025 season, ending an extremely successful 18-year career with the Dodgers.

In 2025, Kershaw led all active players with a career ERA of 2.53 and 15 career shutouts. He finished his career with 3,052 strikeouts and 223 wins in 455 appearances. He won a host of awards, including an MVP, three Cy Young awards, three World Series championships, a Triple Crown, a Gold Glove and five ERA titles, as well as making eleven All-Star appearances.

But now his career is over and there are no plans to enter a career career coaching or managementKershaw has a lot of time on his hands outside of baseball. Kershaw shared what he plans – or doesn’t plan – to do during his retirement on the Pardon My Take podcast.

“I think the biggest thing is I have no motivation to train at all. Zero. I just don’t want to do anything,” Kershaw said. “And that usually happens after the season, but slowly but surely you think, ‘Okay, I have to do this to prepare for next season.’ But since there is no next season, I think I have to start training because this body can get out of control very quickly. But at the moment there is no motivation to do that.”

After spending so much time under the lights of Dodger Stadium, Kershaw definitely deserves a break. Kershaw had a fantastic season with the Dodgers, but the future Hall of Famer revealed he knew 2025 would be his last season before it had even started.

“I knew I was basically ready for the whole season,” Kershaw said. I kind of went into this year thinking it would be my last and didn’t really say anything until the end and then went into the postseason knowing for certain that it was my last. What a way to end it, man, it was so special. I couldn’t script it any better than that. It was just time, it was time to be ready and I’m at peace with that and I don’t have to try to keep up anymore.”

The Dodgers will miss Kershaw dearly, but have enough qualified starters to carry the torch and continue the team’s success moving forward.
