One afternoon in December 2023, five -year -old Lila Marland began to suffer a series of symptoms that are familiar with most parents.
She complained about neck pain, headache and had given up.
Her mother, Rachael Mincherton, from Hyde, took her to the Tamesside Hospital in Greater Manchester, where a district nurse said the child had tonsillitis, offered a recipe for antibiotics and discharged her.
But within 12 o’clock ‘cute’ lilac was dead.
An eight -day investigation into her shocked death will start on Tuesday at the court of Manchester South Coroner in Stockport, Greater Manchester,.
A first study indicated that lilac had signs of meningitis bacteria in liquid around her brain.
Mrs. Mincherton said that she asked hospital staff if meningitis could be a cause of her daughter’s symptoms, but was told that it was tonsillitis.
Menititis is a deadly infection of the protective membranes that surround the brain and spinal cord (meninges) and is usually caused by a bacteria or virus.

Since the death of Lila, Mrs. Mincherton and her partner Darren Marland, 42, have set up a charity called ‘Lila’s Light’
It can quickly become fatal because the life-threatening sepsis causes an extreme response to an infection.
Opinion can affect everyone, but is most common in babies, young children, teenagers and young adults.
It is estimated to 1 in the 10 cases of bacterial meningitis is fatal.
Prior to the investigation into the test, Mrs. Mincherton said: ‘When we got home from the hospital, I slept with Lila that night and when I woke up, she didn’t respond.
‘The paramedics arrived within a few minutes and did everything they could, but it was too late. At that moment our family changed forever.
‘Lila was the most amazing and cute little girl.
“She was a soft soul who had many friends and all the teachers at school thought the world of hers.
‘I would pick up Lila and it would take half an hour to leave because she would hug all teachers.

‘Lila played with her friends, loved dancing, cheerleading and rainbows.
“She had a zest for life for life and her entire future for her. It breaks our heart that she will never get the best out of life and fulfill her potential. ‘
Since the death of Lila, Mrs. Mincherton and her partner Darren Marland, 42, have set up a charity called ‘Lilacs‘ – Where they raise money to provide hospitals with grieving bags for brothers and sisters who have lost a brother or sister.
They have collected more than £ 10,000 so far, via various fundraisers, including a Family Fun Day and Charity Football match.
“No family thinks they will ever be in this position,” said Mrs. Mincherton.
‘It is almost impossible to put the feeling of loss into words that our family is confronted with every day and how Lila’s death will stay with us forever.
“We would not wish for what we should endure on someone.”
The couple, who are also parents of the 15-year-old daughter AVA, hopes that the investigation will give them the ‘answers they deserve’ and has also instructed specialized medical negligence lawyers at Irwin Mitchell.
“One of the most difficult things to try to come to terms is so many unanswered questions about why Lila died,” said Mrs. Mincherton, a former nurse.
“We know that the research and listening to the evidence will be incredibly difficult, but it is something we have to do to establish answers for our girl.”
The Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust, which run the hospital, are contacted for a comment.
