Djokovic in Sinner’s half at Rolex Shanghai Masters

Novak Djokovic is on a semi -final collision course with World No. 2 and title defender Jannik Sinner after the release of the Rolex Shanghai Masters draws Monday.

Djokovic, who fell to the Italian this season in the semi-final of Roland Garros and Wimbledon, returns to the competition for the first time since he lost to Carlos Alcaraz in the US Open Semi final.

The fourth placed Serbian and four-time Shanghai champion plays the winner of the Frenchman Corentin Moutet and Marin Cilic in his opening match. He is placed to meet Frances Tiafoe in the third round, Andrey Rublev in the fourth round and Ben Shelton or Casper Ruud in the quarterfinals.

Djokovic, no. 4 in the PIF ATP ranking, is 31-11 in the year according to the Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index after reaching all four semi-final of Grand Slam this season.

Sinner, who leads Djokovic 6-4 in their Lexus ATP Head2head series and the 40 times ATP Masters beat 1000 champion in last year’s Shanghai final, opens against the German Daniel Altmaier or a qualification. The former number 1 is sown to meet Tallon Greek Spoor in the third round, Alexander Bublik in the fourth round and Taylor Fritz or Holger Rune in the quarterfinals.

In the upper half, World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz sown to meet Alexander Zverev in the semi -final. But first he will concentrate in an opening match against the American teenage leather Tien and Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic. He is sown to meet Cameron Norrie in the third round, Daniil Medvedev in the fourth round and Alex de Minaur or Karen Khahanov in the quarterfinals.

Zverev leads the second quarter of the draw and opens against a qualification or Argentinian Mariano Navone.

The most important drawing action starts on Wednesday. The final is planned for Sunday 12 October.
