Alex de Minaurin lit up until the last eight of us to win with straight sets

Both will be a much more difficult test than Riedi who froze under pressure and played a bad game tactically, feeding the brilliant return of the Minaur by trying in vain to shoot the aussie of the court.

The MINAUR match was for the first time at Louis Armstrong Court on Monday (local time), with a decent but not full crowd that cherishes in relatively moderate – for New York in the summer – 25c Sunshine.

“I was happy with my level, my focus,” said the Minaur. “I knew he had a number of large shots and he had a hell of a week through Quallies.

“I am just happy that I am here again in the quarterfinals. In the end I want to be this, playing for the big titles, fighting. I place myself in the right places and I still have a big chance in the quarterfinals.”
