Alex de Minaurin lit up until the last eight of us to win with straight sets

It took until the second week of the US Open before the No. 8 seeds got a lock on one of the three show courts of the US Open, but after finally received a premium that Alex de Minauraur wasted, has no time wasted on a show.

In reality, the Australian Nr played.

The Minaur, however, showed flashes of genius to store the world no. 435 to win 6-3 6-2 6-1 in 93 minutes.

The last Australian in the adult singles De Minauraur went in a third quarter final in New York where he will meet Canadian Nr. 25 Seed Felix Auger-Aliassy after he defeated Andrey Rublev.

Both will be a much more difficult test than Riedi who froze under pressure and played a bad game tactically, feeding the brilliant return of the Minaur by trying in vain to shoot the aussie of the court.

Indeed, the only time that the Australian looked mild was when he was asked, in the interview after the game, to demonstrate his command of Spanish to the many Spanish fans in the crowd, but even then he soon recovered his calmness

The MINAUR match was for the first time at Louis Armstrong Court on Monday (local time), with a decent but not full crowd that cherishes in relatively moderate – for New York in the summer – 25c Sunshine.

The first set put three breaks in the middle. The minaur won two and that gave him control over the game.

In the second set he quickly moved to 5-0 to be surprisingly broken. But he served with the second chance.

All the thoughts of a revival of the Swiss were quickly extinguished when the Minaur broke to Love in Game Three of the Third Set. Riedi had a point to break back, but failed to take it and the Minaur broke again, but again, the game ended with the ninth double mistakes of his opponent.

“I was happy with my level, my focus,” said the Minaur. “I knew he had a number of large shots and he had a hell of a week through Quallies.

“I am just happy that I am here again in the quarterfinals. In the end I want to be this, playing for the big titles, fighting. I place myself in the right places and I still have a big chance in the quarterfinals.”
