Grigor Dimitrov and Matteo Berrettini officially withdrew from the US Open earlier this week.
The withdrawal of Dimitrov was always expected after he had contracted a breast wound while he led Jannik Sinner two sets to love the fourth round of Wimbledon. Sinner then won the entire tournament.
Berrettini’s exit is also no surprise. The 29-year-old Italian is plagued by an oblique injury, who withdraws from competitions in both Madrid and Rome. He has not played since he lost to Kamil Majchrzak in the first round of Wimbledon.
Alejandro Tabilo replaced Dimitrov on the US Open Direct Entry list, while Brandon Holt came in when Berrettini withdrew. Holt was already in the main table with a wildcard, who then gave the Usta to Eliot Spizzirri.
Main Draw Singles promotion at Flushing Meadows starts on Sunday, August 24. It is preceded by the Mixed Doubles competition during the US Open Fan Week.
