EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ. – Freshman trotters Diabolic Hill and All Time Trot S took similar paths to victory in the Grade 1 Valley Victory and Goldsmith Maid at the Meadowlands, respectively, on Saturday (Nov. 15), indulging in close stalking trips before emerging in the homestretch to score courageous victories over tough, pace-setting rivals.

In the $421,000 Valley Victory, for 2-year-old male trotters, Diabolic Hill conceded to Spencer Hanover mid-race before gaining the upper hand in a lengthy duel, prevailing in 1:53.3 to go well.

Diabolic Hill and driver Todd McCarthy followed AI (driven by Yannick Gingras) into a two-wide drag into the first corner through a:28.3 first quarter before going clear with five-eighths to go and immediately giving in to Spencer Hanover (Jason Bartlett) to stalk a:56.3 half.

With five sixteenths to go, McCarthy was out again, moving with Diabolic Hill, and the Muscle Hill-Crysti Dream colt headed home ahead of the corner.

Spencer Hanover fought his way back to the eighth pole, but Diabolic Hill parried his rival’s move and reached the winning post by a head. Nix Nacken (Dexter Dunn) finished third, defeated by 3-1/4 lengths.

“He is simply phenomenal. The way he fought throughout the entire process, you can’t expect more from a horse,” says trainer Annie Stoebe, co-owner of Diabolic Hill together with Mazza Racing Stables. “It’s really helped him get on the road (with his maturity); he’s just a smart kid. It’s so rewarding to have an animal that powerful and perform like that.”

Now a five-time winner from 10 starts with earnings of $506,636, Diabolic Hill paid $4.20 to win as even-money favorite.

DIOBOLIC HILL REPEAT

After just being blown away by Busy Miss Lissy S in the Kindergarten finals two weeks ago, All Time Trot S (Googo Gagaa) turned the tables in the $462,000 Goldsmith Maid, for 2-year-old trotting fillies, drawing in the pocket behind her fellow Åke Svanstedt trainee before unleashing a :27.3 stretch push to reel her in and also hold off runner-up Nezuko Kamado S for a lifetime best score of 1:54.

In line with Yannick Gingras, All Time Trot S secured a two-hole drive behind another stablemate in Isabella Bi (Åke Svanstedt) through a quarter of :27.4 before briefly taking over with five-eighths to go and then conceding to Busy Miss Lissy S (Johnathan Ahle), who took cover to clear the front for a half of :57.1. The Googoo Gaagaa-Gorgeous AM filly enjoyed a flawless sail from the pocket to three-quarters in 1:26.1 before clearing the pegs at the eighth pole.

‘You have to respect the others, but I thought so [Ahle] before I pulled,” Gingras said of his mid-stretch move with All Time Trot S. “I had a handful of trot, but I could see that Åke also had a little trot behind me, so I bided my time and tried not to pull too early.”

It took All Time Trot S a few steps to change gears, but she caught Busy Miss Lissy S with a sixteenth to go and survived a late attack from 9-5 favorite Nezuko Kamado S (Scott Zeron) by half a length. Busy Miss Lissy S finished a game in third.

REPETITION OF ALL TIMEDRATS

“She deserves it; she is a top mare,” Gingras concluded.

Now a three-time winner from seven starts, All Time Trot S increased her career earnings to $278,202 with the biggest win of her career. Robert Lindstrom, whose Midnight Sun Partners owns All Time Trot S, bred the filly in partnership with Ove Karlsson.

As the third choice at 3-1, All Time Trot paid S$8.40 to win.

AUTUMN END FABULOUS: A Pick-6 double transfer of 20 cents of $9,241 motivated players to put $59,479 in “new money” into the pot, and after Dance Partner scored in the 12e race at odds of 30-1, leaving three players to pocket $19,929.72 after even-money favorite Like A Shadow scored in the 13e. … Yannick Gingras and Ron Burke led the driver and trainer colonies, respectively, with four winners each.
