August 29 – The DFL has signed a memorandum of agreement (MOU) with tourism and events Queensland with a first target of delivering a summer festival of football, in addition to a broader focus to promote the development of football in the region.
De Mou was signed in Brisbane by Bundesliga International Head of APAC Kevin Sim and Teq CEO Craig Davidson.
The initiative will focus on a series of community projects, including the integration of the Bundesliga in existing sporting and cultural events, and identify opportunities for football programs for cooperation.
“Queensland is considered a prominent sports hub in a country that is known for passionate sports fans and with the Olympic Summer Games for 2032 this fiery will continue to grow,” said Peer Naubert, Chief Executive Officer of Bundesliga International.
“This MOU serves as a starting point for our collaboration and opens the door for further opportunities.”
This is the first DFL meeting in Australia. The Bundesliga has more Australian players than one of the other top five European competitions.
Queensland is an important sports hub, where Gold Coast organized the Commonwealth Games in 2018 and Brisbane in line to organize the 2032 Olympic Games. Next year the Gold Coast will be one of the three host cities for the Asian Cup 2026.
“This MOU with the Bundesliga is a powerful example of how we make our promise of the destination 2045 to make it to make Queensland the number one destination in Australia and a world leader in events and experiences of world class,” said Andrew Powell, Minister of Tourism of Queensland.
“By bringing one of the world’s most iconic football competitions to Queensland, we not only grow the game, we create new opportunities for tourism, trade and community connection throughout the state.”
