August 28 – Aston Villa Women Football Club has hired Maggie Murphy as director.
Murphy used to be CEO at Lewes FC and was also a board member of the FA WSL and Women’s Championship. Maggie was recognized in 2023 as one of the 30 most influential women of BBC Woman’s Hour in sport.
Villas Women’s Team is now run as an independent entity under ownership of V Sports.
The new structure makes it possible to have resources be assigned directly to the ladies team, the club said, making special investments possible to support the development of sports and business activities.
Last season the club finished sixth in the 12-team Ladies Super League
“I am excited to become a member of Aston Villa women at a time of ambitious change and renewed goal at the club,” said Murphy.
“We now have the structure and support to build Momentum from the field to support our continuous progress on it … Our ambition is clear: the full potential of Aston Villa ladies unlock and pride cultivate with our fans, partners, players and staff who translates into lasting success and impact.”
Murphy starts AVWFC at the beginning of October.
“After our promotion to the WSL in 2020, we made a stature progress on and next to the field, with our dedicated women’s facilities at Bodymoor to the best in the world.
