Dennis Novak announces retirement: ‘More than I could ever have dreamed of’

Austrian Dennis Novak announced his retirement from professional tennis this week. The 32-year-old, who reached career-high No. 85 in 2020, shared the news on Instagram.

“Hello everyone, I just wanted to let you know about my professional career [has] It’s coming to an end,” Novak wrote. “Reaching number 85 in the world, playing 17 times in the Davis Cup for Austria and all the Grand Slam main draws is more than I could have ever dreamed of!! ?”

Novak reached two tour-level quarterfinals in his career and has the same number of Top 20 wins. His best major result was a third-round finish at Wimbledon in 2018. Looking ahead to his next chapter, Novak shared a message of heartfelt gratitude in his retirement post.

“Thank you to my parents and my family who gave me the opportunity to pursue my dream [being] a professional tennis player and for supporting me without a doubt throughout my life!!! ❤️??,” he added. “Thank you to all my coaches over the years for your work with me and your trust!!

“Thank you to my girlfriend who stood by me all these years and never complained when I was away for so many weeks! I love you ❤️

“I am truly grateful and grateful for everything I was able to experience on this journey and for all the people I have met over the years and made friends for life!!”
