The Directorate of Health Services, Government of Manipur on Friday reported a total of 3,334 cases of dengue in the state, marking a steady rise in the number of infections with 69 new cases in the last 24 hours.
According to the latest district report, Imphal West remains the worst affected, accounting for a total of 2,323 cases, including 38 new infections in the past day. Imphal East has reported a total of 608 cases, with 21 new cases added during the same period.
Other districts with active dengue cases include Bishnupur (96), Thoubal (74), Senapati (61) and Kakching (45). Districts such as Ukhrul, Chandel, Tamenglong, Tengnoupal, Kamjong, Noney, Noney, Kangpokpi and Churachandpur have no reported cases of dengue.
The state has recorded one dengue-related death, earlier reported in Bishnupur district, with no new fatalities in the last 24 hours.
Health officials said the department is closely monitoring the situation and urged the public to remain vigilant. Citizens have been advised to eliminate mosquito breeding grounds, use mosquito repellents and keep the environment clean to prevent further spread of the virus.
Dr. Jugindro Sorokhaibam, member of the Association of Healthcare Providers of India (AHPI), told India Today that changing weather conditions are affecting disease patterns in the region. “With rising temperatures, bacterial volume and genetic composition are likely to change, which could affect the gut microbiome,” he said.
Experts have also linked the rise in vector-borne diseases to climate change, warning that its impact has become an undeniable reality in Manipur. “Climate change is no longer a distant concern; it is happening now and we are witnessing it directly,” noted one expert.
He added that dengue has become endemic and affects almost every part of the state, and called for collective action involving the government, scientific institutions, civil society and the public. “No department or sector can tackle this alone – only a collaborative approach can bring about meaningful change,” he stressed.
Health authorities have reiterated their call for public cooperation to control the spread of dengue and prevent future outbreaks in Manipur.
