Denarius aims higher in Bluegrass Stakes

Hightstown, NJ -After bringing her step by step, trainer Domenico Cecere will watch Denarius on Friday in a division of the grade 3 Bluegrass Stakes for 2-year-old female trotters at Lexington’s Red Mile in the hope of seeing her.

Denarius goes to her BlueGrass-Veloving with a two-length victory in a division of the grade 3 Champlain Stakes on 12 September in Woodbine Mohawk Park. She won in 1: 55.2, similar to her winning time in a division of the Kindergarten Classic series in her career debut on August 1 in the Meadowlands. Between the two wins she finished second, hit a neck, in a kindergarten on August 23 on the Big M.

“She only has three races, but it seems that she is a very smart mandriffen,” said Cecere, who trains the home boower daughter International moni-Treviso for owner Moni Maker Stable. “I always believed in her. I liked her when we were training. She has a beautiful family tree and she always showed me that she had a class. We respected that. We let her grow and went step by step and I am happy with where we are now.”

Denarius is a half-sister of Kilmister, who as a 2-year-old in 2022 won the Peter Haughton Memorial and became third in both the Breeders Crown and the Valley victory. He was also the winner of the big circuit at the age of 3 and finished second in the Earl Beal Jr. Memorial and a division of the Stanley Dancer Memorial.

“I trained the father and it’s cool to take a 2-year-old who is a home base,” said Cecere. “It’s more exciting. It’s nice to grow them up and be a good horse. We try to do that every year. That is our dream.”

Denarius will compete on Friday in the fourth of four $ 94,500 divisions of the Bluegrass Stakes. She leaves two with Dexter Dunn in the Sulky and is 6-1 on the morning line in a field of eight mares.

“Now we are starting to perform more,” said Cecere about Denarius. “The mares she is going to race are in (1): 52, (1): 53, so it will be interesting to see how she is doing. She raced well in Canada; I was really happy with her.

“She has already shown us that she is a nice mandriage. She wins (1): 55, in a good way, coming home. We will see on Friday how she is going, but she feels good, she trains well.”

In the first Bluegrass Division for the Filly Trotters, leading lady (Walner-Muscle Dolly) is the 9-5 Morning line favorite of Post Five for driver Yannick Gingras and trainer Nancy Takter. This season she has won victories in New Jersey and Kentucky Stakes Action.

Kentucky Championship winner Country Glide (Tactical landing-S to Glide) is the 6-5 Morningline choice in the Second Division, which departs from Post Seven for driver David Miller and trainer Melvin Schmucker.

Maya Patel Hanover (Captain Corey-My First Lady) is the 5-2 morning line favorite in the third division. She is looking for her first victory of the season, but was second in the Pennsylvania Sire Stakes Championship for Trainer-Driver Ake Svanstedt.
