Demetrious Johnson: “I think Jake [Paul] can be correct [Anthony Joshua] out” | BJPenn.com

Demetrious Johnson has given his thoughts on the highly publicized fight between Jake Paul and Anthony Joshua, and he apparently wouldn’t be surprised if the influencer invader stopped the former Olympic medalist and multiple-time world heavyweight champion.

This thought was expressed by the record-breaking UFC champion, as well as former ONE Championship titleholder, during a recent interview he did on his YouTube channel. DJ spoke with former UFC bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley as part of his channel Powerfuland the two delved into different topics.

In an excerpt of the interview posted on X account @Home_of_Fightat a sneak peek of next week’s Netflix blockbuster boxing match with AJ vs. Paul, Johnson said:

“I think Jake can knock him out. Anthony Joshua got knocked out earlier by some weird shots. Andy Ruiz, [Daniel] Dubois knocked him out with a short overhand right, right? Jake Paul can land one of those shots, he can. If Anthony Joshua doesn’t get on his bike and start moving and fight Jake Paul like a boxer. Like pop, oh you missed, oh, pop, pop, like use that range.

“Start hitting the body, make Jake Paul work, make him miss. Yeah, he can destroy Jake Paul, but I don’t see that happening. I think he’s going to try to prove a point and you know what, maybe my black man doesn’t know anything. I don’t know anything about boxing, right. But I have a feeling Jake Paul could possibly knock out Anthony Joshua. I’m just saying.”

Demetrious Johnson Commentates on Big UFC 323 Happenings with Alexandre Pantoja and Henry Cejudo

Demetrious Johnson also recently turned his focus to some more MMA-centric analysis in recent times following the final numbered event of the UFC’s calendar year and perhaps the promotion’s final ever pay-per-view event.

Because Johnson is the most heralded flyweight champion in UFC history, his take on Alexandre Pantoja, who lost his hold on the 125-pound belt in less than thirty seconds due to an injury. While ‘Mighty Mouse’ appeared to playfully tease how his 11-fight record at flyweight would remain intact, Johnson also showed his respect for Pantoja, saying he felt the Brazilian had enough skill and dominance to usurp his record of defending the flyweight title.

DJ also gave his thoughts on the swan song fight of former two-time opponent Henry Cejudo, who went out with a loss last Saturday. Johnson said he felt some regret when Cejudo returned from his MMA retirement in 2020 only to be on a four-fight losing streak. Demetrious Johnson mentioned how he sold it to Cejudo because MMA is easy money for small athletes their size, but mentioned how father time is undefeated in the wake of rising young contender Payton Talbott beating Henry Cejudo on December 6.
