Delhi GOVT to build mega flyover to decongen kashmiri gate isbt

Delhi’s traffic is notorious for its busy roads because many of its traffic routes have to deal with serious traffic growth, including near the Kashmiri Gate Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT). But the commuters will now be able to travel easily because the Delhi government is working on a mega project to build a new viaduct that connects Nigambodh Ghat (near Margat Wale Baba) with Majnu Ka Tilla. According to officials, the initiative would reform the busy Rajghat–Majnu ka tilla corridor in a red-light-free piece, also reducing travel times.

Speaking of the traffic at ISBT, the piece is stuck while vehicle traffic crosses from five different directions. An official of a public work department (PWD), NDTV, said in its report: “The idea is to streamline the traffic flow and to reduce congestion at ISBT. The proposed viaduct would pass above the existing ISBT structure, the Metcalfe Road Red Light crosses and descends in the neighborhood of Majnu.”

Despite the work in progress, the project is in its emerging phase and PWD is also working on drawing up a Detailed Project Report (DPR). Sources told NDTV that the viaduct will be built with an estimated cost of RS 500 Crore and with an estimated completion of two years after the work starts. To give this project priority, the government has stopped tenders for a previously proposed viaduct.

The road racing near Kashmiri Gate Isbt houses thousands of vehicles every day, making the road overly chaotic, leading to long traffic jams. The chaos gets even worse during the monsoon months when the road is sinking or in water. If the project gets a green signal, the viaduct will help to reduce the delays and offer smoother journeys between Central and North Delhi.
