Dejounte Murray’s blunt message is music to Jazz’s ears

Dejounte Murray’s blunt message is music to Jazz’s ears

Dejounte Murray has no ties to the Utah Jazz, but he plays for one of the few teams ahead of them in the tank race. But don’t worry, because his latest post on X indicates that the Pelicans’ intentions should have them jumping ahead of the Jazz soon enough.

After returning last night, Murray posted on

First, let’s congratulate Murray on returning to the NBA with a clean bill of health after a devastating Achilles injury last year. It’s a career-changing injury, so let’s hope Murray can get over it and resume his career without setbacks.

Second, and more importantly, this ties in closely with what the Jazz want the Pelicans to do. Currently, the Jazz are a game and a half behind the Pelicans in the tank race, but the latter has won their last two and four of their last six. It’s clear they’re on the rise, and with Murray’s return, they plan to play the best basketball they can as the season enters its home stretch.

Third, the odds of the Pelicans catching the Clippers and Trail Blazers are embarrassingly low that it would be one of the greatest miracles in NBA history if they actually secure a passing spot. Still, from the way Murray makes it sound, New Orleans will play as hard as they can from now until April.

The Jazz & Pelicans face each other three times

Utah and New Orleans still have three games against each other. This includes each other’s next two straight games, a back-to-back at Utah.

-February 26 (in Utah)
-February 28 (in Utah)
-April 7 (in New Orleans)

Utah will sign Jar Jackson Jr. and Jusuf Nurkic already don’t have it, and Lauri Markkanen probably doesn’t either if the latest reports about him are true. They’re getting less healthy, and Murray’s return makes New Orleans healthier.

The plans of the Jazz and the Pelicans go together like chocolate and peanut butter. Murray basically gave away what the plan is from here. Once the Pelicans put it into action, that’s one less team to worry about in the tank game, and also increases the Jazz’s chances of getting (and keeping) a high lottery pick.

The odds were pretty high, but the fewer teams to worry about, the better. Thanks to Murray and the Pelicans, things should only get better for the Jazz.
