It looks like Deandre Ayton got into trouble on his way back to Los Angeles.
According to a report from TMZthe Lakers big man was temporarily held at Lyden Pindling International Airport while authorities searched his bag for marijuana.
The Royal Bahamas Police Central Branch said Ayton was allegedly smoking weed on the premises, giving authorities the right to search his bag.
In a stunning twist, the search turned up nothing and Ayton was released.
However, Ayton’s lawyer, Devard Francis, has a different story about what happened.
He told TMZ that his client, Ayton, was briefly helped by authorities when they searched his bag for pot. When nothing was found, Ayton was released and no charges were filed.
Ayton is currently on his way back to Los Angeles, where the Lakers will begin practice this week before returning to action against the Clippers on Friday night.
Born in the Bahamas, Ayton suited up for the Bahamian national team during 2024 Olympic qualifying. He averaged a double-double of 19.5 points and 11.8 rebounds, along with current NBA players Buddy Hield, VJ Edgecombe Jr. and former NBA player Eric Gordon.
Ayton, a former No. 1 pick, has been up and down for the Lakers this season, averaging 13.2 points and 8.5 rebounds in 28.2 minutes per game.
