Deerwood Country Club in South Jacksonville will be redesigned for a year of his 65-year golf course, which will be closed in October 2026 and reopened in October 2027.
Prior to the renovation, a new short course for six holes called The Approach will make his debut, making members a more informal and social way to enjoy the game. The project will be built by the Jacksonville-based MacCurrach Golf Construction and will include improved irrigation and drain systems.

The redesign of the main course will contain dramatic updates, marked by a shared double-green complex for the par-3 12th and par-4 14th holes. Architect Erik Larsen van Larsen Golf, who has designed more than 100 jobs worldwide and has previously served as a project architect of Arnold Palmer, leads the project. His design includes large, strategically placed white-sandy bunkers, a heavy on the 12th hole, and several risky possibilities such as a row of par-4 on the 11th and a par-5 at the 10th winding around the lake. The course extends to 7,350 meters.
The improvements of Deerwood remain a trend among clubs in Jacksonville. Glen Kernan Club was reopened earlier this year after a two-year renovation with a new clubhouse, while Jacksonville Golf and Country Club will close at the end of 2027 for course and facility upgrades.

Since 2022, Deerwood has invested in numerous membership facilities, including a swimming pool in resort style, extensive fitness and wellness complex, pickleball court courts, upgraded dressing rooms and new eateries such as 1960, a family restaurant in honor of the club’s founding year.
The course, once hosts for the Greater Jacksonville of the PGA Tour between 1967 and 1975, will offer mutual play rights at other area clubs during the closure.
