One thing is for sure: December will never sneak up on you. Although it felt to me as if this fall went by extra quickly. One day it is suddenly below zero, already dark at three o’clock and I wonder the same thing every year: why do people live in this country during the winter months? I find snow in December cozy, but the darkness affects me so much that a month of winter is more than enough if I have to decide.
This year trade december aesthetics for me less about the Christmas tree or the ‘extra everything’ decorations. Instead, a premature Christmas present for Flora now stands where the tree used to be: a toy kitchen. Good luck gift from grandma.
We put up some Christmas decorations this weekend, but less than usual. There was a lot of packing as we might have thought we would have gone bigger this Christmas and I really didn’t feel like packing it all up. This year I’m investing in the details and that also makes the few things we have in front of us feel extra selected. Extra important.
I’m looking forward to filling December with a long Christmas breakfast at home with burning candles. We already light the angel game every morning and Flora watches with wide eyes when it starts to ring. Definitely the December soundtrack. Also looking forward to Christmas baking and sledding with Flora when it snows here. Just a Christmas where we do things together. It feels very cozy to think that we are currently creating our little family’s Christmases and traditions, even though Flora is very small.
