Death: Karma Revero

  • Karam ended production of Revero last week.
  • The extended-range electric vehicle produces 536 horsepower and 550 pound-feet of torque.
  • The Gyesera will replace this.

Last week, Karma Automotive announced that it had built the final production Revero. The car has had a complicated history and started out more than ten years ago as the Fisker Karma. Fisker went bankrupt in 2013 and the company resulting from the asset sale revamped the Karma as the Revero, which went into production in 2016.

Karma posted the news to its social channels ahead of the holidays, writing that it created the final car “to honor where we started and to clarify where we are going.” The company hasn’t released any specific details about the sedan, but it wears a beautiful green exterior paint that Karma paired with a brown interior.

The Revero, in case you’ve already forgotten, is an extended-range electric vehicle that produces 536 horsepower and 550 pound-feet of torque. The sedan, which weighs just over 5,000 pounds, can reach 60 miles per hour in just 4.5 seconds. It has a combined range of up to 360 miles, with up to 80 miles of electric range.

While the Revero dies, some of it will live on. Karma is preparing to launch the Gyesera, which will use the Revero’s space frame and 28.0 kilowatt-hour battery. It delivers 30 hp more and 4 Nm less torque than the Revero it replaces, while featuring an all-new cabin and other design updates. The company also claims it will reach 60 mph in 4.0 seconds.

Karma is also preparing to launch the Amaris GT Coupe, a two-seater with a turbocharged four-cylinder generator and a 41.5 kWh battery that produces 708 hp and 676 lb-ft. It reaches 60 in 3.2 seconds.

Goodbye, Revero

It’s wild to think that Karma Automotive still exists in its current form after almost a decade of car production. When Fisker first launched nearly two decades ago, the idea of an extended-range electric vehicle was new, a combination of existing and emerging technologies that didn’t really appeal to many, but that has changed today.

Scout has two longer-range EVs in development, while Ford recently announced that the Lightning will have a built-in generator. The next generation Nissan Rogue will have a series hybrid powertrain.

While interest in electric vehicles is waning in the United States and other markets, consumers are much more open to hybrids, and that hopefully applies to EREVs as well. Who knows, maybe Karma’s next vehicle will be a hit.
