Alek Thomas had three hits and scored twice, including the Go-Ahead Run on a Geraldo Pendomo single in the seventh inning, and the Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the San Francisco Giants 4-2 in the opener of a four-game series on Monday in Phoenix.
After a two-run double from Tyler Fitzgerald, the Giants even pulled 2-2 in the top of the seventh, the diamondbacks pushed over the final difference maker in the second half of the collection against San Francisco Ace Logan Webb. Thomas and Jose Herrera touched successive one-out singles for Per Domo’s Blooper over the head of Shortstop Willy Adames.
The Giants again appeared to bind the score in the eighth when Christian Koss launched a high ride to the top of the left field fence. Diamondbacks left Fielder Tim Tawa did a jump effort and reached to the top of the fence while a fan extinguished a glove to the hit. The ball went over the glove of Tawa and in the mittens of the fan.
The referees initially ruled the interference of fan and called it the second in the inning, but a repeat review showed that there was no contact between the gloves and the path of Tawa on the ball was not impeded. However, it was also considered that the ball would not have cleared the fence without the interference, and Koss only got the second base.
Diamondbacks reliever John Curtiss then switched Rafael Devers out of its fourth straight scent on a 0-out-4 night and Shelby Miller came to Fan Heliot Ramos to Strand Koss and Arizona allowed his lead of one run.
Eugenio Suarez distracted the bottom of the eighth with his 26th Homer of the season, giving Miller an extra series of kisses for the ninth. The veteran then withdrew the side to terminate his 10th rescue, so that Arizona’s four-game Losing Streak was terminated.
The Diamondbacks scored the first run of the game on a throw error by Giants -Catcher Patrick Bailey on a Herrera offer in the third, scored Thomas, who had doubled. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. Solo -homer, his 11th, from Webb in the sixth.
Curtiss (1-0) received two and was credited with the victory after Ryne Nelson de Giants held on two points and five hits in 6 2/3 innings. Nelson spread seven without giving a walk.
Webb (7-6) was accused of three runs on seven hits in 6 1/3 innings. He ran one and blew seven.
Fitzgerald gathered two Doubles and Dominic Smith had a two -squeeze and a single for the Giants, who lost for the sixth time in their last seven games.
