Yohel Pozos RBI-Single rode in the game-winning run in the second half of the 11th inning when the St. Louis Cardinals reached a 6-5 comeback victory against the visiting Cincinnati Reds on Saturday.
Pozo’s two-out hit from Rookie-Reliever Chase Petty (0-3) rode in Jordan Walker, who pinches for automatic runner Willson Contreras when St. Louis won his fifth upright.
Reliever Phil Maton (1-2) threw a scoreless top of the 11th for the victory. Starter Sonny Gray was one point on five hits, ran two and threw five out in five innings.
The Reds, who used eight pitchers in a bull pen competition, have canceled three consecutive.
After St. Louis pulled in one in the eighth, Nolan Arenado fixed the 5-5 in the ninth with a home run in the seats of the left field.
With a run in the seventh, the Reds came to get ahead against Reliever Steven Matz. Pinch Hitter Connor Joe attracted a lead-off Walk, and Matt McLain, who hit 3-out-5, connected for a basic rule double along the left field line. Joe came by to bind it 2-2 when Gavin Lux was in the first place to the first.
Elly de la Cruz then stepped up and shot a first pitch-change 435 feet across the midfield wall for his 17th home run of the season and a 4-2 Cincinnati lead.
The visitors added another in the eighth to bring the score to 5-2 when Spencer sent and scored on Will Bensons Offerfly.
St. Louis limited it to 5-4 in the lower half. Victor Scott II and Brendan Donovan each hit a single and then scored on successive singles by Masyn Win and Alec Burleson respectively.
Burleson expanded his hit streak to nine to give the cardinals a 2-0 lead in the first. After Winn took a walk, Burleson hit a zinc shed in the St. Louis Bullpen in the right field.
The Reds cut the shortage in half in the third. McLain led with a single to push his stroke to nine and went to third place on the subsequent single by TJ Friedl. McLain then scored Lux Grunde in a 6-4-3 doubles.
