Function title: Head coach, men’s and ladies tennis
Summary of the work: This function includes the provision of general instruction and management of the tennis teams of the men and women at Davis & Elkins College. D&E is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II and the Mountain East Conference (MEC).
This is a position of ten months.
Job tasks:
- Instructs student athletes in all aspects of sport during training and competition.
- Identifies, investigates and recruits potential student athletes that match the academic profile of the institution and of the athletic ability to contribute to the success of the program.
- Ensures the academic success of student athlete through intervention and campus sources.
- Fundraising to support the operating costs of the program.
- Makes travel arrangements and sets a competitive schedule from the conference.
- Shops and expenses equipment and ensures that purchases are responsible for tax purposes.
- Models high levels of character and sportiness and sets expectations for behavior within the program.
Special work conditions: Evening and weekend work if necessary

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s diploma required and Master’s degree is strong.
- Proven success in coaching and recruitment or equivalent experience.
- Candidate must be a dedication to the integrated role that athletics plays in an institution for higher education.
- Ability to adhere to and take care of compliance with NCAA and MEC rules and regulations and the ability to lead and cherish a diverse student and administrative population.
- Demonstrable ability to solve problems and to initiate and implement projects independently and effectively.
- Possibility to work multi-task, effectively and to get deadlines in a fast environment.
- Strong oral, presentation and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate with students, parents, staff, teachers and external voters from the college.
- Strong leadership, management and interpersonal skills, with the ability to make effective decisions based on facts and a healthy judgment.
- Competent in computer programs, including Windows, Outlook, Word and Excel, and available technological integration for athletics (ie recruitment, instruction on the field, integration of social media, student-athleteervices, etc.).
- Possibility to obtain a valid class D WV license with approval of passengers.
