Davis Cup 2025: Cameron Norrie and Arthur Fery win to give Great Britain a 2-0 lead about Poland

Fery’s call to replace the wounded FearNley, only came 24 hours before he got on the field to make his Davis Cup debut.

But there were no signs of nerves of the Brit when he produced an adult display against Pieczkowski, ranked 484 in the world.

‘I didn’t really think about it [a debut] Was so early in my career and with my ranking: “Fery, whose mother flew just in time from London before the game, said.

“Very, very proud to play for Great Britain, and hopefully I can do it for many more years.”

Fery was better for his 21-year-old opponent in the clutch moments, converting four of his 11 breaking points and minimizing his mistakes, despite some signs of fatigue.

The injury had led him to stop from the top 400 in the world, but a monumental victory over the top -50 player Alexei Pofyrin in Wimbledon and a first title on the Challenger Tour -the sport under the ATP tour -helped him climb the ranking.

“I managed to play well when I was in court,” he said. “I struggled with injuries for the past year and a half, but this year it has been good if I have been able to play.”

Norrie had put the first point of Great Britain on the board earlier on Friday, but was made to work for his victory over the 19-year-old Berkieta, ranked 511 places under him.

The British number two was immediately on the back foot, so that two breaking points in his opening service game were saved before the set points were set up in a tense tie-break and then sealed the set with a PinPoint service.

The 30-year-old then showed his experience when his opponent no longer had steam and an early break from Serve was enough for Norrie to see the victory.
