David Wright’s Hall of Fame chances increase after final voting

David Wright’s stock is rising among Hall of Fame voters, and there’s still time left.

The former Mets captain rose to 14.8 percent of the vote on Tuesday as the official numbers were released for the 2026 Baseball Hall of Fame class.

Carlos Beltrán and Andruw Jones were elected after passing the 75 percent threshold needed for appointment.

Wright received 8.1 percent of the vote last year (his second appearance on the ballot).

Candidates remain on the ballot for up to ten years, provided they receive at least five percent of the vote each year. Wright received 6.2 percent of the vote in his first year of eligibility.

Jones received only 7.3 percent of the vote in his first year of voting and steadily climbed. This was his ninth year on the ballot.

Among third basemen, Scott Rolen received just 10.2 percent of the vote in his first year of voting. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in his sixth year.

Wright’s career, once a Hall of Fame fixture, was curtailed by injuries – most notably spinal stenosis that forced his retirement before he could complete his eight-year contract with the club.

Beltrán became the sixth Hall of Famer raised in Puerto Rico, joining Roberto Alomar, Orlando Cepeda, Roberto Clemente, Edgar Martinez and Ivan Rodriguez. Puerto Rico is tied with Cuba for the Latin American country with the most Hall of Famers.

Manny Ramirez received just 38.8 percent of the vote in his 10th and final attempt at the Hall of Fame in the BBWAA voting.

Ramirez was suspended twice for performance-enhancing drug violations, damaging his candidacy.

Félix Hernández received 46.1 percent of the votes in his second year of voting.

Any candidate who receives at least 43 percent of the vote in their second year is then elected to the Hall of Fame.

Eligible new players for the 2027 ballot include Buster Posey, Jay Bruce, Jon Lester and Kyle Seager. New players eligible in 2028 include Albert Pujols, Yadier Molina, David Price and Stephen Strasburg.
