The perfect mix of top talent, qualified coaching, energetic fans and a front office that does everything it can to put the best possible product on the diamond are the most likely culprits of LA’s success, but manager Dave Roberts brought to the fore a facet of the Dodgers organization that has been sorely overlooked: the farm system.

“Yeah, I think people just overlook the fact that we probably have the top-5 farm system in baseball every year,” Roberts said. “This year I think we probably have a No. 1 or No. 2 pick. We pick at the bottom of the draft every year, toward the bottom, and we still have young guys, either through trade or development, who continue to contribute.
“So on the business side, I think we’re doing a great job of marketing our organization. So it’s pretty tangled. I think we have great people and obviously great ownership as well.”
The Dodgers have a ton of homegrown talent and seemingly every season is filled with the excitement of who will be next on the path to major league stardom. From Clayton Kershaw making his long-awaited debut in 2008 to rookie Dalton Rushing getting his first MLB swings last May, the Dodgers appear to have no shortage of talent on the farm.
While watching players rise through the ranks is part of the many joys of the game, the Dodgers also deal out top prospects in exchange for more star power on the team.
As much as the Dodgers are known for spending on their MLB payroll, they have done just that recently invested more than $100 million in their Single-A affiliate in Ontario. Perhaps the next wave of talent from the farm system will continue to prove Roberts’ point and take advantage of the new facility.
