The Dauphin County (PA.) General Authority (DCGA) has approved the $ 45.6 million sale of Dauphin Highlands Golf Course in Swatara Township to Harrisburg I, LLC, a purchasing activity formed by Provident Realty in Dallas. The decision follows a competitive process in which six groups submitted proposals, where Provident was ultimately selected.
The sale includes real estate, which includes both Swatara Township and Steelton. The proceeds will enable the DCGA to pay $ 13 million to the course linked to the course, which has consistently operated with a deficit. Officials noted that the purchase price is almost ten times the registered value of the country and described the transaction as an important step in reducing non -performance assets, a process that the authority has pursued for 15 years.
While officials emphasized the financial benefits in the long term for residents of Dauphin County, members of the community expressed their concern about the project. Nearby homeowners were worried that a data center would yield noise, heavy water consumption and higher requirements of utilities. In the meantime, golfers and club members complained about the loss of one of the most popular public courses in the region.
The golf course remains in operation until the expected closing date of 31 December 2027, at which point Harrisburg I, LLC takes full control over development. The authority underlined that different conditions still have to be met before the transaction is completed.
In addition to Dauphin Highlands, the DCGA also owns other properties, including the Riverfront Office Center on 1101 S. Front Street in Harrisburg, in which Pndot Services and various Magisterial District Judge Offices house.
