We went into town for a day to celebrate John’s birthday and took the opportunity to get out and about after Christmas. We walked a lot, just walking around, without a real plan. It was fun.

We planned to have lunch at the Opera bar but it was closed so we went to the National Museum. We ate grilled salmon, cheesecake, fennel and caper salad and had a small side of Skagen. Very good lunch. Afterwards we looked at the portrait exhibition, but, as we always do, we quickly moved on to Rembrandt.

We then checked in at Diplomat. The fire was in the reception area and the room was on the first floor, with half a flight of stairs down and a balcony overlooking the water. The boats in the bay were still lit up with Christmas lights, which felt unexpectedly nice.

We crawled into bed, watched The Diplomat, drank tea and ate Tuscan cookies. After a few hours we changed for dinner and went through the tea room and lounge next door. It was almost empty, which meant you stayed a little longer.

Dinner was Pelle Jansson, halibut with champagne sauce and spinach, and then coffee and chocolate. At first I wanted to write that it was the best meal of the year, but that felt a bit exaggerated. But honestly it was one of the best I’ve eaten in a very long time. The halibut was incredible. In the future, I will invite people to celebrate with a clear recommendation: have the halibut.

We slept well. No children, no dogs. In the morning it was sunny and freezing. Stockholm was very beautiful. We went outside again and walked towards ABC Färghandel. Now it would be painted.

But that will be the next post.
