Let’s drop the patch. Yes, the weather delay in Kansas City was unacceptable in how it was performed and threw a wet cloth on the National Women’s Soccer League weekend. A weekend that is not yet over with a Monday evening affair between the Seattle Reign and Chicago Stars that are still coming.
Here is how they form after the majority of week 16:
Cream of the crop
Kansas City Current (13-2-1, 40 points; vs Pride, 0-0): The real heat around the current was what their tent homthome delayed against pride for more than three hours. Perhaps planning from summer day matches in the Midwest should be a thing of the past. When the game finally started, the power played the full 90 minutes without scoring a goal for the first time ever in a CPKC stage. They have not been great since the break, but they have not admitted any goal and are 11 points clearly in the NWSL Shield Race with 10 to play.
The best of the rest
San Diego Wave FC (8-3-5, 29 points; @ Bay, 2-1): The Golf had the ship straightened with a few nice goals in a 2-1 road victory at Bay FC. It seemed that things could unravel when they gave a penalty that tightened things for the last 15 and the stopping time. However, they succeeded and jumped in second place. The victory brings booking victories around the three consecutive draws.
