Newcastle United today announced a major change at the executive level, which confirms the appointment of David Hopkinson as our new CEO.
The arrival of Hopkinson comes when Darren Eales leaves the club and ends his three -year -old Stint on Tyneside while he leaves for medical reasons after a constant battle with blood cancer.
Eales, who has supervised our first major trophy and two Champions League qualifications, together with our continuous growth commercial for 70 years, has published a farewell declaration today, which reflects on his time at the club.
Read his farewell below that ends with a reassuring rule on Hopkinson; A man in which he clearly has every confidence:
“On behalf of my family and I want to express my sincere thanks to everyone who is connected to this special football club for welcome us in the Newcastle United family.
“For all supporters, employees, players, coaches and property, you have made my three years here so incredible and I am extremely proud of what we have achieved together.
“I have made memories that will stay with me forever, and I am also enthusiastic about what the future has in store and the successes that the club can achieve.
“I would like to welcome David Hopkinson as the new CEO of the club. Newcastle United is in good hands, and I would like to wish David and the Executive Team any success, while the club continues on the next part of his exciting journey.”
I was lucky to meet Darren Eales in July 2022, a few weeks before he was appointed.
It was a short chat outside of a bustling St James’ park during the preseason, but his enthusiasm and interest in hearing what fans had to say was clear, although he was’ undercover ‘at the time because he had not officially started his role!
Everyone on the NUFC blog would like to wish him good health, a complete recovery and the very best for the future.
Thank you, Darren!
