At least 17 people dead, after a huge landslide in Darjeeling, North Bengal. Heavy rainfall in North Bengal has caused landslides and serious flooding, causing serious damage, roadblocks and loss of lives in darjeling. Road connectivity with many important routes has been cut off, including, darjeeling to Siliguri and Bengal to Sikkim. Rescue operation is stranded as tourists stranded. Rainfall caused landslides in areas Mirik and Sukhia Pokhari.
Key Routes Cutoff
According to reports, Sikkim and Kalimpong were cut off from the adjacent regions after roads were washed away due to the rising Teesta River. The landslide on Dilaram on the Kursong -road blocked the route to Darjeeling. Other roads, including Rohini Road, have also been hit, while Tindharia Road remains operational. Limitation of the movement of vehicles was also ordered on the Siliguri-Darjeeling SH-12-road after part of the Iron Bridge of Dudhia collapsed due to continuous rainfall in the region
CM Mamata Banerjee to visit Darjeeling
West -Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will visit Darjeeling tomorrow. CM has encouraged Torist in North Bengal to stay where they are. She said the police will solve them. On X she wrote: ‘I followed the situation last night on the clock basis. I held a virtual meeting with Chief Secretary, DG of Police, the Noord -Bengal DMS and SPS, and the meeting was also attended by public representatives such as Gautam Deb and Anit Thapa. I am constantly in contact and personally go to North Bengal with my main secretary tomorrow in this context. In the meantime, we advise the tourists in North Bengal to stay where they are until our police evacuates them safely. Rescue costs are ours and tourists do not have to be anxious. ‘
