Daniel Levy has time on his term of office as Tottenham chairman and will resign with immediate effect.
After almost a quarter of a century, the departure of the 63-year-old comes to the helm of the business activities of the Noord-London Club, in which Tottenham won the League Cup and Europa League and reached the Champions League final for the first time.
Levy, who was appointed in March 2001, also supervised the move from White Hart Lane to the state-of-the-art 62,000 seats Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, which he recently described as his greatest achievement.
“I am incredibly proud of the work that I did together with the Executive Team and all our employees,” Levy said in a statement. “We have built this club into a global heavyweight that competes at the highest level. More than that we have built a community.
“I was lucky to work with some of the greatest people in this sport, from the LilyWhite House and Hotspur manner team to all players and managers over the years.
“I want to thank all the fans who have supported me over the years. It has not always been an easy journey, but considerable progress has been made. I will continue to support this club passionately.”
‘Tottenham Hotspur has been transformed of a century in the past quarter’
Peter Charrington, a director of the club owners, will take on the responsibilities of Levy in the newly created role of non-executive chairman after he joined the Tottenham Board earlier this year as a non-executive director.
“Tottenham Hotspur announces that Daniel Levy has taken his role as executive chairman today after almost 25 years,” said a club statement.
“Tottenham Hotspur was transformed in the last quarter of a century. It has played in European matches in the last 18 of 20 seasons and became one of the world’s most recognized football clubs.”
‘A new era of leadership for Tottenham’
Despite that success, Levy’s departure comes against a background of growing disillusion, in which supporters demonstrate against his stewardship of the club.
Tottenham’s Europa League victory at Manchester United In May, a 17th place in the Premier League was compensated for his job Ange Postecoglou only fourteen days later.
Charrington said: “I want to thank Daniel and his family for their dedication and loyalty to the club for so many years.
“This is a new era of leadership for the club, on and next to the field. I acknowledge that there has been a lot of change in recent months, because we have introduced new foundations for the future.
“We are now fully focused on stability and strengthening our talented people in the club.”
