Daniel Dubois can come back and become a world champion, but he will have to learn from his Nemesis Oleksandr Usyk.
Dubois was headliner in a raw Wembley Stadium for the second time in a row when he repeated Usyk, this time for the undisputed heavyweight championship in the world.
But the Ukrainian disrupted Dubois’s attacks and, after he had dropped him in the fifth round, the Brit sent cold with a hefty Southpaw -Linkerhaak, a shot that he had coded “Ivan”.
Dubois had inherited the IBF title that Usyk had left before the rematch of the Ukrainian with Tyson Fury last year. But the 27-year-old had eliminated Anthony Joshua to prove himself at the highest level and his promoter Frank Warren believes that he can become world champion again.
After all, he is young, especially for a heavyweight, with many years left in sport.
“He has to learn from it. He is only 27. For example, I look at Frank Bruno, he fought three times for a world title and he got it at the fourth attempt,” Warren said.
“Daniel has won a world title, so hopefully he will come back, but it comes down to the night of Usyk and he is a special, special boxer.”
The promoter added: “That is what Daniel must learn from this fight, to try to learn and develop the mental attitude that Usyk has.
“Daniel did not comply with the task, he became careless, he dropped his hands and paid the prize.”
Dubois takes at least six months before he returns to ensure that he fully recovers.
“He will now have a small break for Daniel, think of things and he has to revive himself,” Warren said.
“Over the years there have been many hunters who have been beaten and come back even stronger. That is what he has to do.
“He can hit, he can hurt you and it just develops other aspects of his game.
“He has to come back and make a statement.”
